I Love Talking to Strangers!

...because the unexpected always happens.  And sometimes the unexpected is pretty awesome.

Case in point.  Last night I was walking Hazel and as often happens when I'm out with one of my dogs, someone stops me to have a conversation.

We made small talk and then came the time for introductions.


Fella with a dog:  "My name is Ed.  You know, like erectile dysfunction."

Me:  "Oh...yup, not gonna forget that."  As in ever!


He was quite delightful to talk with...but I have to wonder if he uses that mnemonic device to pick up chicks at bars...and how well it works for him.


Awesome encounter.  Am I right?

Rockin' Old Lady

I saw the cutest thing ever today.

I was driving through my parents' neighborhood today and there was an old woman walking on the sidewalk.  She was shuffling along in what looked like the classic old lady SAS shoes.  Her white socks were scrunched at her ankles.  Her long tiered baggy jean skirt swayed just a bit to and just a bit fro.  Her floral blouse was rockin' every color of the rainbow.  And her vest hugged her rounded sides.


Me:  "Aw, check her out.  She's slow, but she keeps on truckin'."

Little guy as we passed her:  "She's slow because she's texting, mom."

Me:  "Wow!  She walks faster than I do when I'm texting."


So, rock on technologically awesome little old lady!!  Rock on!

Funny Things my Husband Says

Yes, it's another edition of "Funny Things my Husband Says"!

He's the gardener 'round these parts.  Me?  I just tend to kill plants.  I don't mean to...it just happens.  Anyway, he planted just one tomato plant this year and surrounded it with some sort of lovely flowers.  Well, that tomato plant went and grew HUGE!  It towered up, up, up over its wire cage and even grew through the netting Dave placed over it to help keep the varmints away.

And there it stands, looking all proud and fabulous, until the wind picks up.  When we get strong gusts that huge tomato plant decides it's a great time for a nap and it lays right down.

So...Dave's solution?

"I need to make a proper propper for that plant!"

Yup, he's awesome!

Explaining the Feminine Side of Things

Knock, knock, knock!!


Anonymous child of mine:  "What?"

Me:  "Can you clear out of the bathroom?  I need something."

Anonymous child of mine:  "What?"

Me:  "A feminine product."

Anonymous child of mine:  "I don't even know what that is...a toothbrush?"


I swear, all you potential wives of my kid, before this young man leaves my home I will have him all educated in the realm of "feminine products."  I may even make him shop for some.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Yup, the story of my mammogram this afternoon.  What's not to love about the procedure, right?

•  There's the spectacularly lovely open-in-the-front garment.

•  You pretty much always show up a little stinky because there's "no deodorant allowed".

•  The folks who do the procedure have a delightful way of saying "relax" at the most unrelaxing times.

•  You get to grip "lightly" onto a rail...and soon realize that you have a white knuckle death grip on the thing.

•  The technician looks at your scans during the procedure yet has the willpower to remain silent and give up absolutely no scoop about the results...even though you know they know.

•  Oh, and of course there's the "between a rock and a hard place" part...my personal least favorite.


Sigh...Checking that off for the year!
