Eggcellent!

It happened! One of our chickens finally laid an egg!!!!!

It's not a huge egg, but it's a perfectly fabulous egg. And tonight we shall dine on this mid-size oval eggstraordinaire.

Hard boiled? Nope.

Over easy? No way.

Poached? Not a chance.

No, this special egg will be scrambled and divided into four equal servings.

I just know it'll be eggcellent!

P.S. Painting an egg with your left hand when you're right handed is much harder than you'd think! Loving my lefty challenge!

Chickens do What?!?!

I swear these feathered friends of our teach us something new every day.

For instance...did you know that chickens can kill mice?  Turns out they most certainly can.

But in addition to that, did you know that chickens will eat the mice that they kill?  Again, that's a "can do" for a chicken.

And to top that all off, did you know that they eat their mice whole just as a snake would?  Well, yes, indeed.

And the cherry on top...did you know that my husband is officially a nature photographer now?  Yup, he took a delightful series of step-by-step, inch-by-inch photos of the entire eating process that he sent me via text while I was very much enjoying chicken and mouse free time with my brother's family in California.

Gotta love technology...and chickens!

Chickens are a Lot Like Babies

Having chickens is a lot like having babies again.  You know, in a chickeny kind of way.  I find that I'm suddenly involved with one in particular who loves to be held all the time.  She will come right to me when I go out there.  She'll let me endlessly hold her while I whisper sweet nothings and rub her back.  She'll happily sit on my lap just looking around taking the world in...and occasionally poop or spit up.

Yup, pretty much like having a baby again.  I actually think I might need to create a chicken sling so I can do some chicken wearing.
